As you’ll know if you’ve seen Park Lane Big Band play at our monthly Monday night golf club gigs, we support a number of charities.

Tom, one of our former trombonists, has done a lot of work with child.org (formerly the Kenyan Orphans Project), which has been one of the band’s chosen charities since 2006.

Child.org works in the most difficult places in the world to grow up. We remove whatever barriers stop children from getting the most out of life. Sometimes we give them a nutritious meal so they can attend and get the most out of school. Sometimes we provide access to clean water or health services. Sometimes we’ll deliver all, or a combination of those things. We believe in collecting intelligence and creating solutions that can be tailored to a child’s specific situation. We do what works.

It’s easy to think of the major charities in this country but look a little deeper and you’ll find many more small and equally deserving ones too. The Joel Prince Starlight Fund is one such charity.

Joel’s parents are friends of ours. Joel died in January 2015 from a rare form of cancer at just three years old. His parents found out that as his form of cancer was so rare there is no research being carried out into it. To begin research a minimum of £250,000 needs to be raised.

The Joel Prince Starlight Fund was set up shortly after his passing and some three years later has raised over £90,000. We are delighted to support the fund and are determined to help it reach its target.
